PPD Quarterly Newsletter - Summer

With summer winding down and school approaching, I thought it was time for a Park District update. I will try to do a quarterly newsletter, here in the Echo, and online at ptownpark.org to keep you all informed.

It’s been a long hot summer with little rain, so baseball seemed to go very well this year, with few cancellations due to showers. Part of that reason was our new groundskeeper, Devin Johnson, did a great job taking care of the fields, and our umpires were also great and reliable all summer. Prophetstown did very well this year. Out of the 5 leagues that we combine with Erie, Albany, Port Byron, and Fulton for, we placed in 4 of them. The 9-10 year old boys and 11-12 year old boys placed first in the league and our 10-12 year old girls and 13-15 year old girls placed second. Great job coaches and players! Of course the only days it rained this year was during the Annual Dud Drummet Tournament, it was a lot of hard work but thanks to all the coaches and volunteers we made it work.

There have been many improvements made at the Rec Center this summer. Our roof has been fixed in the gym and the pool, the kiddie pool area got a much-needed face lift, and the best news of all, as I type this, the new air conditioning is being put into the weight room. Constant Upgrade!!!!! After the kids go back to school we will be fixing up the entry way and giving the walls a new coat of paint.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Park District is going to try and revive the annual Wiff Wacker Wiffle Ball Tournament, to be held on Saturday, September 3rd at the Lyndon Diamonds. Many people have asked about this, and we felt the timing was right to try it again. If you would like to volunteer or sign up, come down to the Rec Center or call Jason Taylor at 815-718-1971.

Flag Football and Fall Soccer will be a challenge this year, due to work being done on the Prophetstown High School’s baseball diamond. Our 3rd place State Team deserves the improvements, so we will more than likely be moving soccer and flag football over to the Lyndon Fields, or there is a slight chance we may use the high school football field, just for this year. We will try to have the concession stand open in Lyndon for drinks and snacks, if the program is moved there. I will be sending the forms and all information home with your children from school.

Have a great rest of your summer,
Tommy Barton
